DM4OP, Volume 6

From Rave to Remix: A Setlist for the Seasoned Raver

Volume 6 of Dance Music for Old People draws direct inspiration from my post on DJ remix battles, as well as the nostalgia of my former rave days. This mix kicks off with a few early ’90s floorfillers, then slides effortlessly into Alternative Rock remixes, Melbourne Bounce, and Modern House. This mix should hit with the kind of pulse that speaks to longtime club kids and curious dance floor rookies alike.

Enter the James Brown Face-Of

ManRay in the mid-1990s is the inspiration for one of this setlist’s choices: James Brown Is Dead vs. James Brown Is Still Alive. I’ll never forget watching two DJs—one in the main Goth room, the other in the smaller Industrial space—launch a spontaneous James Brown battle by dropping both tracks simultaneously. The crowd didn’t know where to look. Iconic.

BTW: If Benny Benassi gets your heart rate up, this one’s got plenty of him. 😉
